• 'Heroes' Hype Slows Down:

NBC is apparently not releasing the Heroes season 2 premiere for review, meaning critics and fans will see the highly anticipated return at the same time. An inquiry placed to NBC this afternoon elicited a terse response from a lead publicist that NBC wants to preserve the suspense for the fans. In a day where review copies quickly find their way onto bit torrent sites and into pirates living rooms, its no surprise that NBC is closely guarding what may be their biggest investment.


So far, the on air promotion for Heroes second season has been remarkably slim. The series and its cast got a lot of airplay for the Heroes world tour event, and the requisite Comic Con panel was a huge success, but while most networks are flooding the airwaves with sneak peeks, trailers, and interviews, the Heroes hype machine is humming quietly.

The reason for this is simply, Heroes doesn't need anymore hype. Heroes was making noise pretty much all summer long, and the result can be seen in the stratospheric DVD sales the box set delivered. It is not like Heroes needed the additional promotion of preview clips and incessant trailers to herald its return. If anything, the calm is kind of nice.

Heroes will be making a lot of noise when it returns September 24 for better or worse. The critical honeymoon is practically over in the face of the overt commercialism that has been trumpeted all summer long. Right now all eyes are on Heroes to live up to its apparent brand appeal.

With the franchise's inability to snag any of the first half of its lucrative batch of Emmy nominations, the next few weeks could be critical to the shows standing. If Heroes fails to prevail at this weekends Emmy awards, a good dose of adrenaline pumped previews might be in store to keep fans spirits high.

• NBC Releases 'Heroes' Airing Schedule and Details:

*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

NBC has finally issued the official episode descriptions for the much anticipated premiere of Heroes. The first episode of the second season is titled “Four Months Later” and airs on September 24 at 9pm. Heroes fans have been biting their nails waiting to find out the fate of their much beloved season heroes, but much of the press leading up to the premiere of season 2 has been focused on the many new faces joining the cast. With the regular cast out globe trotting in support of the international debut of Heroes, can we assume the season one favorites will be scarce? Possible spoilers ahead.

The official release from NBC reads:

"As the second volume of Heroes begins, the fates of Peter, Nathan and Matt are revealed, following the horrible showdown with Sylar and Peter's uncontrolled nuclear detonation miles above New York City. As everyone attempts to move on, a new sinister force begins stalking and murdering Heroes. With the family hiding in Southern California, H.R.G. and Claire attempt to live as inconspicuously as possible. which proves to be easier said than done. Meanwhile, after landing in feudal Japan, Hiro meets his hero Takezo Kensei. Twins Maya and Alejandro Herrera hope to make the crossing into the U.S. from Mexico, in hopes of finding help with their deadly abilities. Dana Davis, Noah Gray-Cabey, James Kyson Lee, Ali Larter, Sendhil Ramamurthy also star. Nick D'Agosto, Lyndsy Fonseca, Cristine Rose, Barry Shabaka Henley, George Takei, Eriko Tamura and Adair Tishler guest star."

Some surprising names are missing from the cast list, and if you've been watching the spoiler grape vine you probably know exactly who I'm referring to say. Suffice to say, one recurring character will be worm food come the beginning of the season.

While no details have been released, subsequent episode titles have made it onto the interwebs. They include October 1's “Lizards,” October 8's “Kindred,” and October 15's “The Kindness of Strangers.”
